The MCD708 is a high end micro home theater system from Philips. This compact system’s DVD player and the receiver each measure in at 9.1 x 8.8 x 3.1 inches. The MCD708’s two speakers each measure 6.3 x 8.9 x 10.6 inches. Collectively, the system has a weight of approximately 25 pounds.

The Philips MCD708 has a stylish and elegant design. It features a die-cast aluminum cabinet and real rosewood speaker enclosures, which are also partly handmade. The individual components of the main unit, the DVD player and the receiver, have been specifically designed to prevent any sound distortions that may be caused by vibrations, heat and electrical interference.

The MCD708’s DVD player can read standard DVDs, DVD+RWs, CDs as well as CD-Rs, CD-RWs, and MP3-CDs. The player also supports DivX movie files, WMA audio, Picture CDs and Video CDs.

Video features

The DVD player features progressive scanning technology which produces a sharper picture. The system also has a 12-bit Video Digital-To-Analog Converter (DAC) as opposed to the typical 10-bit Video DAC. With progressive scanning and the 12-bit Video DAC, the Philips MCD708 provides the user with smoother high resolution video.

Audio features

Each of the Philips MCD708’s two speakers have 50 watts of total audio power and features premium neodymium ribbon tweeters. These tweeters are designed to reproduce sound in high fidelity as well as widening the sound spectrum in higher frequencies. The MCD708 makes use of a Class D digital amplifier which boasts of 90% greater efficiency than regular AB amplifiers.

Other sound enhancement features include a Dolby Digital decoder, Dynamic Bass Boost and Digital Sound Control.
