All told, the Canon HF100 is a great camcorder. Video quality is superior and the light body and easy to use interface should please most point-and-shooters. Be sure to stock up on a few SDHC cards before a long vacation. If you don’t trust yourself to plan ahead, check out the sister model, the Canon HF10, which comes equipped with 16GB of internal memory plus the card slot. Read more

For this reason, the Canon HF10 ($1099 MSRP) seems more reasonable. The step-up from the HF100, the HF10 includes 16GB on-board storage, which means you can rely on that when the cards fill up, or vice versa. There $200 price gap between models is not inconsiderable, however. Read more

If you have an HD-TV this camera is the way to go. it is much cheaper than the newer models and the picture quality is great! I am not a technically savvy person and found this camera very easy to use. Save money! Buy this one over the newer models. Read more

I have a Sony standard definition miniDV camcorder, and also bought the HF100 and the Sony CX12, both flash camcorders. I found the Canon to be the better value: good to great video and audio quality in good lighting conditions, better user interface, and standard SD cards will save you money and hassle vs. the Sony CX12. If you're not sensitive to a few hundred extra bucks (for the CX12 and overpriced Sony Memory Sticks), you get the following additional features: mu... Read more

Poor LCD display - flickers Poor menu system Joystick could be fiddly for some Can't play hi-res back on the computer Shoe not compatible with older canon gear Very basic editing software Can't change the format with the software Very poor battery life No separate battery charger Problem with storing the films i.e. a DV cassette 'is' already a backup. Dont believe other reviewers saying that there is no software to edit the 'mts' files that this camcorder outputs. I use Ulead Video Studio 11+ and it WORKS PERFECTLY. My MacBook automatically recognizes the avchd card as an actual camcorder and imports the files with NO PROBLEMS. AVCHD MTS files ARE editable. DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE YOU TELL POTENTIAL BUYERS NOT TO PURCHASE. As for the camera, I really like the 24p mode, my kids want to make their own action movies a... Read more
