Some of the player’s playback features include picture mode options including letterbox, normal, pan & scan, and widescreen. It also has search speeds from 2x to 128x. When playing DVDs, its repeat modes include per chapter, per title, and A-B. CD playback modes include repeat folder, one track repeat, random play, and repeat shuffle. The player also has picture zoom features from 2x to 4x.
The Samsung DVD-HD870 is equipped with a 24bit / 192kHz audio digital-to-analog converter. Its audio system outputs Dolby Digital and DTS digital. It has a response bandwidth from 4Hz to 44kHz, a dynamic range of 100dB, a signal-to-noise ratio (S/N) of 110dB, and a total harmonic distortion of 0.004%.
Apart from a 19-pin HDMI Type A terminal, the DVD-HD870 offers a number of other ports located at its rear panel. These include outputs for S-Video, digital audio, coaxial digital, SCART, component video, audio, and composite video.

with 1080p being all the hype i felt i needed to upgrade from this player to an upcovert 1080p player. this samsung unit though not 1080p was IMO a much more user friendly and all around better player. played anything i threw at it flawlessly, options and user settings were easy to use and find. not to mention DIVX! and Optical outputs. only problem was that the open/close button stopped working after 6 months. Very disappointed. As others have reported, the remote is very slow to respond to commands. Worked fine out of the box. But started having issues, the most annoying being that via the HDMI output the audio is not sync'd with the picture. And of course it will only up-convert via the HDMI output, which was the major selling point. Audio seems to be fine thru the Component output.
