Sony MDR-AS50G

The Sony MDR-AS50G, part of the Japanese’s company’s Active Style product range of headphones for the fitness enthusiast, are earbud style headphones that have a flexible neck band. It is available in a black color with silver and red trim. The features that make the MDR-AS50G well suited for use when exercising include its weight, the behind-the-neck design, its short and modular single-sided cord and the moisture guard.

The MDR-AS50G weigh in at only 0.53 ounces without the cord. Along with its light weight, this headphone set has been designed to be as unobtrusive as possible. The soft neck band is very flexible and helps keep the Sony MDR-AS50G secure when worn. Its flexibility also allows it to spiral down, making it more compact and easier to carry around. There is also a hard plastic travel case included in the box for added protection.
The short main cord, measuring 2 feet in length (a 2 foot extension cord is included in the package), is designed to be used with a portable media player carried on an arm band. The cord also comes out on one end only to minimize tangles. To further keep the wires out of the wearer’s way, the cord can be repositioned via a sliding ring on the neck band.

The MDR-AS50G’s earbuds have a moisture guard that keeps the sweat out of the speaker. Sony provides three silicon earbuds of different sizes to help buyers find the right fit.

The main cord ends in a straight gold-plated mini plug while the extension cord ends in an L-shaped plug (also gold-plated) that is compatible with most media players.
