Onkyo LS-V501

The LS-V501 from Onkyo is a 2.1 DVD home theater system composed of a DVD player/amplifier unit, two stereo speakers and a dedicated subwoofer. The system is available in a stylish black or silver design. The LS-V501 was designed for people who want a significant upgrade to their TV speakers but do not want a full 5.1 speaker system. The standard package also includes a full-featured wireless remote control.

The Onkyo LS-V501’s DVD player/amplifier unit (which can be purchased separately) can read a number of different optical media in addition to standard DVDs. The player reads DVD-Audio, DVD+R/RW, DVD-R/RW, CD, CD-R/RW and SACD discs. It also includes support for the MP3, WMA, JPEG and DivX digital media formats. The player features the ability to upscale DVDs to 720p and 1080i (but not 1080p) resolutions.

The LS-V501 also has an AM/FM radio tuner with 40 slots for the user’s favorite radio stations.

The LS-V501’s amplifier outputs a total of 50 watts per channel. It also features built-in decoders for DTS and Dolby Digital and has Theater Dimensional Virtual Surround technology. Through this technology, the user can have a virtualized 5.1 channel surround sound experience.

At the back of the unit are two HDMI ports (input and output), two digital audio inputs (coaxial and optical), component and SCART outputs. As an optional accessory, Onkyo sells a dock for interfacing with an iPod music player.
