List All 7 PricesCanon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS is one of the more unusual of Canon’s lenses in that it was designed to mount only on the Digital Rebel, or the EOS300D body, as it has a circle image that is reduced enough for its sensors, but not enough for a fully framed 35mm.
The lens fits further into the camera body than the norm for the EF lens series.
Back focus in this lens is short, as the S from the EF S stands for, meaning that the small distance in the wide angle lens will give it certain advantages.
The Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS has a focal length and maximum aperture of18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6, while the lens construction is comprised of eleven elements in nine groupings.(1 aspheric element)
It has a diagonal angle of view of 75° 20’ - 27° 50’ with an inner focusing system with MM. It’s closest focusing distance will be about .28 meters, or about a foot, on out to infinity, with a rotating zoom system.
Filter size is 58mm, while its max diameter and length will measure up at 2.7" x 2.6", 6.7oz. / 69mm x 66.2mm.
In response to demands of photographers, this standard zoom lens is designed with Canon’s Optical Image Stabilizer technology while retaining the compactness and lightness of previous models. Its s…
Overall, I'd certainly recommend getting this lens as part of the kit if you're buying a Rebel XSi. There's nothing else in the price range that can match it. The only reason not to buy it would be if you already have a lens like the EF-S 17-85/3.5-5.6IS, the EF 17-40/4L or the EF-S 17-55/2.8IS. Even if you already have the non-IS version of the 18-55 kit lens, it would be worth $100 to get the version with IS. Alternatives There are several alternative lenses, which ... Read more

Canon Announced this lens along with the new Canon 40D . It's an inexpensive ($175) basic lens which adds image stabilization (IS) to the previous 18-55mm EF-S II lens. I'm an IS addict, so I think this lens is a great idea for general shooting. This Canon 18-55mm IS lens will probably become my first suggestion as a normal lens for use with Canon's 1.6x DSLRs, probably even ahead of more expensive zooms since I suspect it will have easier zooming than the cra...
