The P5E3’s overall performance was on par with other X38 chipset boards we’ve tested, except when we overclocked it to extremely high bus and memory speeds, where the little extra margin that the X48 brings can pay off slightly. Simply put, the P5E3 Premium takes advantage of what the new Intel X48 chipset has to offer and then some. Read more

ASUS has also worked hard to make owning a high-end X48 motherboard some what affordable. With an estimated retail price of around $299, there is a lot of value in the purchase of the P5E3 Premium for those looking at a high-end motherboard to use in the coming years. You get one of the best sounding audio solutions we have ever heard in an integrated chipset, plus built-in draft-N wireless connection with access point (AP) capabilities. Those two items alone account ... Read more

Conclusion: Overall, we were truly impressed by the features and actual performance of the Asus P5E3 WiFi-AP @n motherboard. Multimedia features of the board are simply amazing, and support for dual Gigabit Ethernet, as well as two wireless antennas with support for the latest 802.11n standard comes in handy. We tried really hard to find some downsides for this board and if we have to be really picky, then we would like to see higher voltage options available in the B... Read more

  2. [General Motherboard] Intel X48 - Much Ado about Nothing....

Aye, my Asus P5E3 Deluxe x38 board supports CPU's at 1600MHz and memory at 1333 MHz.  As for the x48, performance gains should be noticed if the CPU and RAM were both synchronized at 1600 MHz.

ive youve got time you should wait for x48 mobos which are just round the corner, the Asus P5E3 Premium looks like it might be a winner if you want a powerhouse, but then again its pricey and so is ddr3 ram ;p
