Pioneer DVR-215

The Pioneer DVR-215 is an optical drive that has CD and DVD burning capabilities. It measures 5.8 x 1.7 x 1.7 inches (W x H x D) and weighs 1.8 pounds.

The DVR-215 is equipped with Performance Adjusting Firmware which automatically adjusts and optimizes the speed of disc rotation according to the application being used. It also has a Multi-Effect Liquid Crystal Tilt Compensator. This allows it to compensate for discs that are warped or of uneven thickness therefore improving its recording and playback capabilities. The Pioneer DVR-215 also features an Ultra-DRA (Dynamic Resonance Absorber) and a Disc-Resonance Stabilizer. The Ultra-DRA suppresses vibration generated by imbalanced discs and the Disc-Resonance Stabilizer minimizes the drive’s disc-warping effect on discs that are used on high speed.

The Pioneer DVR-215 has a 2 megabyte data buffer and it features buffer under-run protection for CDs and DVDs. It has a tray-type media loader and it supports both 8 and 12 centimeter discs. This drive can be mounted either horizontally or vertically. However, 8 centimeter discs cannot be used when the drive is vertically mounted.

This optical drive supports a number of media types including CD-ROM, CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-ROM, DVD-RAM, DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD+RW, DVD-RW, DVD+R DL and DVD-R DL. For CDs, it supports different formats such as CD-DA (audio) Video CD, CD Text, CD-ROM, Photo CD, CD-ROM XA, and CD Extra.

The DVR-215 reads at a maximum speed of 40x for CDs and 16x for DVDs. It offers a writing speed of 40x for CDs, 20x for DVDRs, and 10x for DVDR DLs. When rewriting, it offers a maximum speed of 32x for CDs, 6x for DVD-RWs, 8x for DVD+RWs, and 5x for DVD-RAMs.
