I don't normally like dynamic irises because I usually see their effect in pumping black levels, but the PT-AE2000U had no such problem—in fact, I preferred the picture with the dynamic iris engaged, which lowered the black level and raised the peak white level. Even so, the light level was a little lower than ideal, even on a 72-inch-wide screen. It worked well in a totally dark room, but any ambient light at all totally washes out the picture. Panasonic has been making pro video projectors for years, but its first home theater projector to catch my eye was the PT-AE700U. Sanyo, I never meant to hurt you. A man can love two projectors, right? But seriously folks, the key point here is that we have entered the age of outstanding, affordable 1080p home theater projectors. I'm pleased that I was able to do a head-to-head comparison of the Sanyo and the Panasonic, and both projectors produced mind-blowing images. The Sanyo, after some calibration, can give the Panasonic a run for its money – particularly in smaller, darker viewing areas ... Read more
I had the opportunity to actually purchase this projector and the Sanyo PLV-Z2000 at the same time in order to decide which one best suited my needs. After about 3 hours, I decided on the AE2000. I found it was much brighter in its best picture modes and with the bulb in eco-mode mode (whereas the Sanyo is comparable in brilliant cinema only and with bulb set to normal - but the projector ran a bit louder and much hotter), had slightly better blacks and overall better...
