The Onkyo TX-SR805 is an excellent 7.1-channel AV receiver with plenty of audiophile appeal. The Onkyo TX-SR805 is powerful, ergonomic and sonically quite competent. The video performance and the audio performance are excellent. The TX-SR805 comes equipped with Audyssey Labratories’ MultEQ XT eight-point automatic speaker calibration program, which can be run with the included microphone. The included remote is pretty good, bearing in mind the fact that all AV receiver remotes can be confusing to AV newcomers. Even though there are a lot of buttons making it somewhat time-consuming to find what you need, the TX-SR805’s remote does a pretty good job. There’s a button on the side that activates the backlight, which is a must for dark home theaters. In the center of the remote is a joystick to access the menu system. The joystick controls a larger volume and channel rockers, with menu and setup controls to the top and bottom. The TX-SR805 A/V surround receiver provides comprehensive control over all movies, music, broadcasts and gaming and it even provides sophisticated room-correction technology, multi-zone capabilities, powerful bi-amping and “dual push-pull” amplification. It features also the new Neural Surround sound processing. This works with the Dolby’s Pro Logic processing giving a standard stereo signal and processes it into 5.1 or 7.1 channels, creating a faux-surround mix where none existed. The TX-SR805 is also able to convert analog video signals to its HDMI output; meaning that one can connect composite, S-Video, and component sources to the TX-SR805’s inputs, then using just a single HDMI cable from the receiver’s HDMI output to the TV. This allows you to keep your TV tuned to one input when one changes sources. However the AM and FM sections are somewhat not satisfactory, but the sonic performance is excellent. For audiophiles, this Onkyo TX-SR805’s is a great choice.

With a retail price of $999, the Onkyo TX-SR805 is a juggernaut. How Onkyo is able to pack so much performance, technology and livability into such an inexpensive package is beyond me. A year ago, a receiver boasting half of what the Onkyo TX-SR805 delivers would have run you twice as much, which speaks not only to the sheer value of the TX-SR805, but also to the efficiency and prowess of the Onkyo designers themselves. I've owned this unit for about 6 months now, and I've made a few observations. I hope you find them helpful. 1. The amp drives my 4 KEF iQ9s, an KEF IQ6C, and 2 iQ8DS(s) with authority. Add the ground shaking sub channel coming through an unimposing KEF HTB2 Subwoofer and the sound becomes ridiculously impressive at both low and high volumes for an amp in this price range. Highs sizzle, mids are extremely present and clear, and lows are almost visceral at low volumes ... Read more
The best receiver in its price range that you can buy guaranteed. I have owned it for a few weeks at this time and am completely satisfied. There are professional reviews available do some search engine research for more information (TX-SR805 reviews). More power than most people with large rooms will even need. Proper ventilation is needed; do not stack anything on it. This does not take away from its score in my book. Lowest priced receiver with THX UltraII certific... Read more
