See moreMario & Sonic at the Olympic Games is a sports party game developed by Sega for the Nintendo Wii console and DS handheld. Released for the Wii in November 2007, this game is officially licensed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and is the first official Mario and Sonic The Hedgehog crossover video game.
Players can choose from a variety of characters from Nintendo’s Mario and Sega’s Sonic The Hedgehog series. These characters are classified into four general criteria: all-around, speed, power, and skill. Further, each playable character has its own unique statistics that will determine how well the character can perform in the various sporting events. In addition, the player can also choose to create and import a Mii, or a customized avatar, using the Wii’s Mii Channel.
Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games features up to 24 sporting events based on the real Olympic Games. Players can choose to participate in such events as athletics, gymnastics, aquatics and sports like shooting, archery, table tennis and more. These events are held in settings that are based on the official stadiums of the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics.
In addition to the events that have similar rulesets to the official Olympic sports, the Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games video game also features a “Dream Events” mode, where the players can utilize the unique abilities of each Mario or Sonic character.
Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games also has additional content like a gallery mode of Olympic facts, trivia and minigames. The trivia questions have matching minigames that the player must complete in order to unlock the answers.
See lessWhat I'm disappointed in is the character interaction. There is none. In the beginning demo Mario and Sonic's eyes meet. That's it, they don't even speak to each other. Also I'm disappointed that the events do not utilize each characters individual skills. So Blaze's flame manipulating powers, Mario's numerous costumes and fireballs, Knux's punching and gliding, Tails' flying and passion for mechanics are not used enough or are hardly shown. No actual storyline. M&S is... Read more
I love watching the Olympics, both summer and winter. I, like many children, wanted to grow up and be in the Olympics someday. And I, like many adults that used to be those children, Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games will be the closest I get to being an Olympic athlete. A man can dream, can't he? Mario and Sonic is a great game for the whole family to enjoy. In fact, being that it is multi-player, the more the merrier! Read more
Long a symbol of international goodwill, the olympic games are a fitting stage for Mario and Sonic. Despite the plumber's gut and the hedgehog's spindly limbs, the two are extremely athletic, active mascots. They're normally rivals, but here they've come together to enjoy a friendly competition, and that's a brilliant idea on paper. Wii Sports is famous for being alluring to both young and old, while its simple gameplay is just good enough to keep them coming back.... Read more
Over 20 characters were originally planned as well as some sports, such as judo, however these were left out of the final product. Read more
“Mario and Sonic at the Olympics” turned too quickly into “Player versus Mario and Sonic Olympics”, and the result is an unhappy gamer with a set of sore arms. Ultimately, the only license used to its fullest is the 2008 Beijing Olympic one, which is also the one most gamers are least excited about. Read more

Track & Field with the two biggest names in the game For the first time, Nintendo‘s moustachioed plumber Mario and Sega‘s blue hedgehog Sonic compete head to head in a videogame depiction of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. This fun party game is just in time for the festive season and makes good use of the Wii‘s unique motion sensor control system which makes it surprisingly easy for anyone from a seasoned gamer to a complete amateur to compete in the wackiest...
