Players assume the identity of Niko Bellic, an Eastern European who is new to Liberty City. Armed with his dreams in the land of milk and honey, Nikon now uses his skills in driving to make his mark.In Grand Theft Auto IV, even Liberty City got an update, down to every last detail. The city has even been expanded to include new boroughs and surrounding areas beyond the city limits. Finally, players will be able to experience new levels of speed as they handle cars, scale obstacles, drive boats and even fly helicopters. This is one game that allows the player to perfect his skills and to fulfill his fantasies for speed in land, sea and air.

GTA IV is the story of Niko Bellic and his search for answers, money, and vigilante justice. GTA has always mixed genres, but GTA IV exemplifies the sandbox game type by being equal parts racer, third-person shooter, dating simulator, and playground - there's even an option to turn off the story so that the plot and characters won't bother you while you're rampaging through Algonquin and trying desperately to avoid the NOOSE (Liberty City's SWAT equivalent). Amazing City Detail and Single Player Experience

This was my first GTA and being from the NYC area I was drawn to "Liberty City". The first several missions help orient you to the controls but then the difficulty goes up several notches for a newbie. There are no checkpoints so you either need to get pretty proficient at combat including good cover techniques or get proficient at whipping out your cell phone to dial up a cheat.
